Day One of My New Job = Done!

Fall has always been my favorite time of year. As a kid, for me fall meant new back-to-school clothes, learning whom your new teacher was and which friends were in your class that school year. When I went off to college, fall meant reconnecting with friends and weekends partying in the quad before the cold of winter came. For graduate school, fall meant reading your new syllabus and learning how exhausted you should expect to be come December - and also being one semester closer to graduation.

Even though I’m no longer a student, something about that crisp air makes this season feel like a fresh start. So, I find it quite fitting that this week, when the air is finally cooling down, I am FINALLY starting a new chapter in my life at my new job.

I’m currently writing this blog post from my hotel room in Oslo, Norway, the headquarters of my new company, Norges Bank. Norges has offices all over the world and finally decided that it was time to hire an HR person for its NYC office - and they chose me! I will be based in NYC, while the rest of the HR team, including my manager, are based here in Oslo. Because of this, I will have to travel to Norway several times per year.

It has been a dream of mine for a very long time to work for a global organization. My first job in HR was for a global bank, which allowed me to work closely with colleagues in London. Unfortunately, the company filed for bankruptcy before I had the opportunity to travel abroad for work. Ever since then, I knew I wanted to find a similar opportunity where I can continue to work in the city that I love (NYC!), and be able to travel the world on someone else’s dime. And that time is finally here! I’ve already been fortunate with this new gig - my manager invited me to come to Oslo for my first week. I decided to take advantage of being in Europe and traveled last week to Paris and Prague (stay tuned for future blog posts on my time at each of these beautiful cities!) before heading here to Oslo for my first day. And I recently heard that a London work trip is on the horizon!

Today was my first day at my new job and I am SO excited for what’s ahead. I feel reinvigorated in my career, my colleagues seem amazing and the opportunities for learning, being able to work exciting projects, and travel seem endless! As always, I can’t wait to share with you all.

Until then!

xoxo - Kim
